COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Wilderness First Responder provides knowledge and skills necessary to administer emergency and medical care in non-urban environments. The course covers basic anatomy and physiology, assessment and treatment of injuries, appropriate short-term to multi-day patient care and evacuation considerations.

Special Note: Students will be awarded nationally recognized WFR certificate upon successful completion of the course.

Course structure:
The course will run 8am to 8pm (wednesday off). Days are devoted to lectures and exams, practical hands-on sessions and rescue simulations. Expect three rescue simulations with made-up victims and stage blood that will be video taped for enhanced learning. Evenings are reserved for study and assignments.

Rescue in Antarctica Prerequisites: Students must be at least 16 years of age to participate in this course. 16 and 17 year olds (and their guardians) must meet with the instructor prior to the course.

Completion and Grades:
These are based on attendance (100% attendance is required), course participation, performance on both written and practical final exams. The course is not graded.

Know before you go... Certification:
All students who successfully complete the WFR course will receive a WFR certification card, an Anaphylaxis certification card and a CPR certification card from Wilderness Medical Associates. These certifications remain valid for three years.

Standards:
The Wilderness Medical Associates WFR course meets or exceeds all requirements of other similarly named courses (i.e. DOT First Responder).

Recertification:
Within three years, graduates may recertify by way of a 16-hour recertification course, a 36-hour Wilderness Advanced First Aid course, a 36-hour Bridge course, or a 24-hour Challenge course.

  • 50% deposit required to hold your spot (fully refundable if the course doesn't run)
  • Students will be required to sign waivers
  • Course minimums and maximums will be set at 10 and 16, respectively
